I have been raising mini rex rabbits since September of 2006.  My love for rabbits started when I was young with my first rabbit, a gray dutch named Misty.  She was my buddy and I spent many hours playing with her.  Years later, I felt my first mini rex and decided that I needed to get one.  I bought my first mini rex from Jenni Himebaugh of Two Rivers Rabbitry.  I bought my broken black doe, Scotcha's TP2 (Holly), and an opal doe.  Jenni bred Holly to one of her bucks and soon had my first litter.

I now have my small rabbitry made up of 25 holes.  I have grown to love the self colored varieties (black, blue, chocolate, and lilac) and they are starting to take over the barn.  I also have a few tricolors as I love the variety in their pattern and color.  During the summer of 2008, I hope to add otter mini rex to the barn.  I have started building a strong line and have done well in recent show with some tough competition.  I look forward to more shows in the future.

I take care of my rabbits to the best of my ability and knowledge. They deserve nothing but the best I can provide. I feed my rabbits a measured amount of Purina Mills Advanced Nutrition Show Formula pellets daily along with lots of grass hay and fresh water. They also sometimes get fresh parsley from my herb garden in the summer and the show rabbits and brood does get a 1/2 teaspoon of "sweet treats" (a mixture of sunflower seeds, oats, barley, and calf manna) about 3x/week.  The dropping pans are cleaned at least weekly and I disinfect the cages with Vanodine.  I also like to soak the drop pans with vinegar a few times a year.  After soaking for a while, any stains or build up is easilty scrubbed and rinsed off.
A healthy herd is a happy herd!

Some supplies I keep handy in the barn are:
Vanodine for disinfecting, pumice stone for grooming, nail clippers (mini rex need their nails clipped at least once a month), dewormer, QuikStop (for when I cut the nail too far back), and eye ointment. These have all helped at sometime or another.

I have to thank my husband, Chris, for putting up with the rabbits and helping out with feeding and building nestboxes.  He always helps with a smile.
I also have to thank Jenni and Arnold Himebaugh of Two Rivers Rabbitry for getting me
started with some great rabbits and always answering my many questions!

Rabbits are not the only critters at our house!  We also have an 8 year old black lab, Nick, that we adopted when we lived in Colorado.  He is a big sweety and will play fetch forever.  Nick shares his toys with our 3 beloved English Cocker Spaniels -- Pippin, Daphne, and Lily.  I used to show all 3 Engies in comformation, but Lily is the only one I show now.  Chris and I couldn't imagine our house being a home without these little rascals!  They are our constant companions and will always have a special place in our hearts.
